I’m so glad you’re here today. Whatever challenges you’re facing, please know there’s nothing wrong with you. Starting therapy can feel daunting, and taking this first step is a brave and important choice. Sometimes, our minds have a hard time fully dealing with painful memories, which can lead to flashbacks, feelings of anxiety, or being stuck. Trauma processing is not easy work, and for many trauma survivors, discussing traumatic experiences can be incredibly intense.

As a trained EMDR therapist, I’m here to support you in a warm and collaborative way. Using this approach, you don’t have to dive deeply into feelings, allowing you to engage with difficult memories without becoming flooded by emotions. EMDR allows you to process trauma without getting stuck in the emotional analysis, which can help your brain integrate the memory more effectively. It enables your brain to rework those memories so they don’t feel so overwhelming.

I believe that healing takes time and a safe space to explore what you’re going through. Together, we’ll create an environment where you can feel comfortable and understood. And as we focus on moving forward, you can feel a sense of hope and progress. You’re not just telling your story; you’re actively taking steps toward your healing, and I’ll be right here for you every step of the way.

Clients from all stages of life can sometimes feel overwhelmed with transitions and change. You may struggle to find connection and meaning or be a highly driven individual. No matter the experiences, beliefs, and feelings, you are not alone and deserve a space to be seen and understood in the way you need. I utilize an integrative approach throughout the therapeutic process to meet clients where they are. I am empathetic, patient, and willing to learn alongside you to understand what experiences and cultural beliefs makeup who you are. Therapy is a lot like driving a car; you are the driver in your life, and my role as your therapist will be the passenger. I will ensure we create a safe, supportive, and intentional space to express ourselves. I welcome a collaborative and mindful approach to ensure that we are always on the same page and that we can enjoy the process along the way to your goals. I suggest a few different stops along our journey to discover a moment of pause. You may decide to go on another route or change the destination entirely along the way; or perhaps it is the same road trip each time. Regardless, I will sit with you and be by your side. Just like a GPS, we are never taking a straight path. There may be unexpected construction or roadblocks along the way. However, we are, ultimately, still working towards the final destination.

We are all trying to navigate a world that can feel overwhelming, stressful and threatening at times. No matter our age, we have more expectations, more demands on our time, and more access to information than ever before. This is challenging enough to cope with, but we are also trying to do it all on our own. We no longer have the same connection to community, and instead of having whole villages to share in our joys and our burdens, we have each become villages of one. Since humans are meant to be in connection, these social experiences impact how we perceive and interact with the world, with ourselves, and with others.

By joining with you, and building a relationship based on attachment and unconditional positive regard, I become a secure base from which you can explore your experiences and struggles, so you can heal and grow in a way that offers safety, connection, co-regulation and compassion. I take a holistic, client-centred approach that recognizes every person’s therapy journey is different.

This approach meets you where you’re at without judgement, and empowers you to determine your own therapeutic goals, and the best way for you to reach those goals by building on the strengths you already have and developing new skills to increase your capacity for healing and wellness.

As a Social Worker and a Child and Youth Care Practitioner with over fifteen years of experience, I have worked with individuals and families with a variety of needs, providing individualized, strengths-based and identity-affirming treatment and programming. I use my understanding of trauma to meet clients where they are at with compassion and unconditional positive regard, while also encouraging change.

I have worked in a variety of milieus throughout my years of practice. I have worked for a non-profit providing case management and psychotherapy to youth with complex mental health concerns and their families, an organization providing psychotherapy treatment for trauma and complex trauma to youth and adults, as well as a community mental health organization facilitating youth groups and the City of Ottawa developing and facilitating therapeutic recreation programs for autistic children and children with ADHD, ODD, anxiety and learning disabilities. I spent over a decade working in the public school system, most recently as a school social worker, but initially I was an educational assistant in a variety of programs, including a program for school anxiety, an alternative high school program for Indigenous youth, and a dual support program for students with a dual diagnosis of behavioural or mental health challenges and intellectual disability. Additionally, I have developed and facilitated online courses for the local college’s child and youth care and mental health and addictions programs.
